We had so much fun at the Autism Speaks Walk at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, CA last Saturday, April 27. There was a resource fair with a lot of good vendors, good food (albeit high priced) and a great sense of camaraderie, purpose and unity at the event. It felt right to join in the advocacy for autism awareness and walk for Ethan. There were numerous teams who were walking for their family members and loved ones, each with their own creative names and sometimes custom made shirts. We got our shirts from Amazon (thanks Prime!). My good friend Dr. Bryanna Bynum, who is also a mental health awareness advocate, walked with us to support her godson Ethan. She was awarded her doctorate in Organizational Leadership from the University of La Verne just last night, after successfully defending her dissertation entitled “Community College Full-Time Faculty’s Emotional Intelligence For Student Mental Health Awareness.” Congratulations, Dr. Bynum! As we move from April, Autism Awareness Month, we look forward to May, Mental Health Awareness month.
